Island Health is seeking community General Practitioners to work urgent care shifts in the new North Quadra Urgent and Primary Care Centre (NQUPCC). Eligible GPs are those with existing longitudinal community practices. The practitioner will work collaboratively with an inter-disciplinary health care team to provide culturally safe on-site, same day urgent care patient visits.

The services to be provided by the practitioner include but are not limited to:

Urgent primary care for injuries and illnesses that should be seen by a health care provider within 12 to 24 hours but do not require the level of service or expertise found in an emergency department;

Assessment and treatment for minor illnesses or injuries;

Provision of follow-up care for urgent issues that have been addressed at the clinic, and referrals for urgent care patients, as appropriate;

Other primary care services customarily provided for patients at urgent care centres and/or walk in clinics;

Assist with the management of results for the clinic.

Island Health looks forward to supporting primary care providers and staff at this alternative payment site to provide innovative primary care services that are at the forefront of primary care improvement in BC. Modeled after best practices, primary care providers will have the opportunity to optimize data from the clinic information system to improve patient care.

Start Date : Mid October 2020

Additional Information : Part Time, Flexible Shifts

Before Canada and BC were formed, Indigenous peoples lived in balance and interconnectedness with the land and water in which the necessities of life are provided. Health disparities persist, which are due to the impacts of colonization and Indigenous specific racism. Healthy lands, healthy people. Island Health acknowledges and recognizes these homelands and the stewardship of Indigenous peoples of this land; it is with humility we continue to work toward building our relationship.
