Environmental Services Manager

Our client is a professional services and research firm that works with indigenous communities across Canada. They are looking for an Environmental Services Manager to join their fast-growing team in downtown Victoria. They promote a strong team environment and look for leaders to help their organization grow and develop. Much of their work supports the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (“UNDRIP”) with a focus on Aboriginal rights and title, land use and occupancy studies, socio-economic studies, land use planning, stakeholder engagement, and industry and community relations.

The Manager, Environmental Services, must be able to manage contracts, budgets, staff, sub-contractors, and Associates, ensuring staff and contractor performance meets client and quality standards. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience as a senior manager or department lead, preferably for a environmental service provider that is owned by, or works for, Indigenous communities.

Qualifications:

Completion of a university degree/diploma in an environmental or civil engineering discipline or equivalent experience and qualifications.

A member in good standing with the College of Applied Biology with one of the following designations: RPBio, RBTech, ABT.

5+ years of experience working with Indigenous communities, government, or industry.

Experience working on-site or in the field with Indigenous and remote communities.

5+ years of experience mentoring junior staff.

Comfortable with business development and sales meetings.

Strong reading, writing, and communications skills.

Motivated to build out and lead a full-service environmental services division.

Skills and Knowledge:

A self-starter and critical thinker.

Able to conduct oneself professionally and demonstrate confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact in a wide variety of situations.

Able to conduct senior review of reports and figures.

Able to establish and maintain productive and positive relationships with Indigenous governments and community members.

Able to manage, prioritize, and execute multiple projects at one time.

Able to operate all-terrain equipment is an asset.

Able to work within a multi-disciplinary project team environment.

An enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as be a valuable team player.

Cultural sensitivity and awareness.

Environmental assessment knowledge or experience is an asset.

Experience with provincial and federal environment assessment projects will be an asset.

Highly motivated to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and to plan and organize numerous projects.

Informed about Indigenous issues in Canada (historical and contemporary).

Promotes a safety culture and possesses strong safety management skills.

Strong organizational skills as well as strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
