COMPANY BACKGROUND:

North American Steel is a leading manufacturer of engineered storage systems with offices and manufacturing facilities located across Canada.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, protection and reliable operation of all critical computer systems, information, and IT assets. They install new hardware and software, provide training, and participate in research and development to continuously improve the overall IT strategy. Senior System administrators also actively resolve problems and issues with computer and server systems to limit work disruptions within the company.

CERTIFICATIONS / QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field, or an equivalent

• 5+ years’ work experience as a System Administrator or equivalent

• A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans

• Extensive firsthand work experience with IT systems (database, network administration, or system administration experience)

• Knowledge of operating systems, programming languages, system performance-monitoring tools, virtualization, networking, content delivery, and caching

• Strong knowledge of networking software, hardware, and protocols

• Knowledge of implementing and developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices

• Expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols

• Working knowledge and experience with cyber security tools (Anti-Virus, MDMs, Firewalls, etc.)

• Experience with on-premises systems and servers

• Experience with Public Cloud Infrastructure (specifically Azure)

• Working knowledge of virtualization software, VMWare, Hyper-V or equivalent

• Experience with scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, bash, etc.)

• Experience administering Windows Server (Active Directory, VPN, etc.) and SQL Server Databases

• Experience with Microsoft Business Suite Products: Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Exchange Server, etc.

• Experience administering and supporting ERP systems

• Effective communication and problem-solving skills

• Clear and professional written and oral communication.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Excellent time management and organizational skills.

• Experience in project management

• Self-motivated and eager to learn.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Managing and maintaining essential IT operations and infrastructure, including operating systems, networks, security tools, applications, servers, ERP and CRM systems, databases, file servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, LANs, WANs

• Troubleshoot IT-related issues by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues

• Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions for employees and management

• Perform IT administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly

• Managing IT projects, including budgeting, planning and implementation

• Partner with internal and external partners to communicate project status, activities, and achievements

• Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative

• Prepare and manage overall budget for all company IT resources

• Researching and procuring required hardware and software systems, and implementing them to the highest standards

• Provide requirements documents, technical specifications and end user documentation for new or upgrades to IT systems

• Provide training to all company’s employees on current systems and future system updates/upgrades

• Create and implement IT policies and procedures

• Implement and monitor controls to ensure IT policies are followed and enforced

• Ensure all IT and networking systems are secure and follow best practices

• Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes

• Monitoring and patching of all system vulnerabilities

• Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures

• Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups

• Maintain Inventory of all IT Assets both Software and Hardware

• Keeping abreast of modern technologies and identifying opportunities to improve IT systems

• Maintain the physical security systems at all company locations (Key Card, Fob controls, Security Cameras, etc.)

• Maintain all phone systems (on premise and mobile devices)

• Administer SQL Database, responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance

• Onboarding and Offboarding process and procedures for all new hires

• Design authorization processes within the organization by role, function, and responsibility.

• Control systems access within the organization by role, function, and responsibility.

• Ensure compliance with Cyber Security and Data Protection Frameworks

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION:

• Full Time

o Monday to Friday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm ET

o Occasional weekend requirements

• Location

o Hybrid Position

o 3 days a week at Head Office (Whitby, ON)

o Travel to other office locations as required to support onsite equipment

KNOWLEDGE AN ASSET:

• Information Security related Professional Certifications: CISSP, CISM, etc.

• Microsoft Certifications: Azure, Microsoft 365, etc.

• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, specifically Dynamics Business Central

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and moving on-premises solutions to the Cloud

• Experience supporting IT environment with multiple sites/locations

• Experience with Compliance and Regulatory Frameworks (SOC1, SOC2, PCI-DSS, NIST, ISO 27001, etc.)
