What You’ll Do

The Director, Corporate Engineering Services is an integral role within our Manufacturing channel at Metrie. This key position acts as a consultant and leading resource to the Operations and Manufacturing facilities within Metrie. There is a core focus on the technology and engineering aspect of operational process improvements, in addition to technology upgrades of existing processes. The Director, Corporate Engineering Services investigates, reviews and validates all capital investments exceeding $ 20,000 within Metrie’s Operations and Manufacturing facilities in collaboration with the responsible process owners. The Director, Corporate Engineering Services acts as a Senior Project Manager for the execution of strategic Capital Projects.

Reporting Relationships

The Director, Corporate Engineering Services will report to the Vice President Manufacturing. The role will interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, providing critical interface with Plant Directors, Managers and key personnel at each manufacturing facility. There are two direct reports for this position: Senior Maintenance / Engineering Leader and Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

The Director, Corporate Engineering Services is a subject matter expert on inter-disciplinary manufacturing technology with particular expertise in the field of wood and wood composite processing.

Successfully achieve world class manufacturing processes for all engineering related projects, which require in-depth knowledge of the global equipment manufacturer community.

Be intimately familiar with the technological capabilities, the manufacturing reliability and the financial strength of these manufacturers. Be responsible for evaluating and recommending manufacturers for vendor selection.

The new manufacturing processes will demand a high degree of equipment integration and automation. This level of integration needs to be achieved by the different vendors collaborating very closely on the design and the execution of their respective process elements.

Coordinating the design activities and driving the exchange of information and ensure the collaboration of selected vendors.

The majority of the leading equipment manufacturers are located in: North America and in Europe, particularly in Germany and Italy. The Director, Corporate Engineering Services is required to independently travel to those regions; know the cultural differences and is a respected communicator. Respective language skills are critical success factors.

Be a seasoned negotiator for large capital investment items and related services.

Ensuring our facilities are supported with high performing infrastructure including the peripheral technology for world class manufacturing processes.

Work closely with key personnel at our different facilities to engage all levels of management in finding opportunities to increase productivity and streamline auxiliary functions. Identify best practices within the industry..

Have an in-depth familiarity with financial statements and a sound understanding of operational interdependencies in order to drive profitable, business oriented process solutions.

Qualifications

5-7 years of experience in a leadership role, working in the wood and wood composite manufacturing industry.

Master’s degree in relevant Engineering field.

Possess a combination of strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic vision to drive innovation and achieve success in our fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Strong understanding of the commercial construction industry and be highly competent in leading construction projects and related services in preparation of new manufacturing and distribution facilities.

Strong facilitator of discussions and presentations at all levels of the organization.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of applicable codes and regulatory requirements on a local and national level.

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver results on schedule and within budget.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with each functional stakeholder and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving innovation, mitigating risks, and achieving business objectives.

Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire, coach and motivate team members, foster a culture of innovation and excellence, and lead by example.

Advanced Excel and Access skills.

Operationally focused with strong project management proficiency.

Lean/ Six Sigma is a plus.

Be able to legally work in Canada as this role is based at our Calgary Manufacturing facility.

Willingness to travel up to 50% as required within Canada, the US, as well as internationally.
