We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Scientific and Applications Programming Support Analyst to assist our Knowledge, Information, and Technology Services. The Analyst would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration.

Working closely with researchers across the NRC, but mostly with Automotive and Surface Transportation in Boucherville, the chosen candidate will support software maintenance and development activities, continuous integration, quality-assurance and integrated software package release to clients. Other activities include providing support on all aspects of scientific computing, including High Performance and Cloud Computing (HPC); Linux/Unix and Windows systems administration, management and support; and scientific applications and computation.

Screening Criteria Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education Degree from a recognized university specializing in Computer Science, or one of the Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or Engineering with computational emphasis.

A combination of a post secondary education in Computer Science or Computer Technology and experience may also be considered.

Significant and recent experience developing, maintaining, and running computational scientific or engineering research applications, using primarily C/C++ and scripting languages (e.g. Python), running in Windows or Linux environments.

Significant and recent experience providing developer and user support by analysing, troubleshooting and resolving complex hardware and software problems.

Significant and recent experience in software quality-assurance, continuous integration, source repository and versioning, packaging and multi-platform software development.

* Significant is defined as at least 3 years of experience.

** Recent is defined as within the last five years

Assets:

Experience with graphics applications, HTML and XML Web related technologies, of 3D visualisation, GUI development tools (Qt, VTK) and event model.

Experience SCADA and IOT communication protocol (e.g. OPC-UA, MQTT), edge framework (e.g. EdgeX Foundry), network programming, database management (e.g. PostgreSQL), as well as backend development.

Experience with “DevOps” and quality-assurance tools.

Experience with cloud solutions, virtual machines and container solutions.

Experience with distributed scientific computing, parallel programming and clustered HPC environments.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

In-depth knowledge of algorithms, data structures and scientific programming languages such as C/C++.

Advanced knowledge in software maintenance and development including quality-assurance (GitLab, automatic testing), continuous integration, source repository and versioning (Git).

Knowledge of Linux and Windows system administration and management, operating systems principles and shell programming;

Knowledge of Linux application development tools, such as compilers, debuggers, libraries, profilers.

Working knowledge of graphics applications, of 3D visualisation, GUI development tools (Qt, VTK) and event model.

Technology support - Conceptual and analytical ability (Level 2)

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Compensation From $89,548 to $112,660 per annum.

An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $212 per month.

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
