Stage - Operation Officer H/F

Reporting to the Founder & CEO, Head of Tannery Operations is accountable for development and production of zero-waste, high quality, veg-tanned, industrial fish leather, tanning formulas, quality control, and cost-effective production processes to be deployed at an industrial scale. The Head of Tannery Operations also will be accountable for advising and working with the CEO on the sourcing and testing of fish skin species, and on the application of natural dyes and coatings based on customer requirements and the company’s zero-waste, eco-friendly vision.
Testing, Reporting, Improving
Conduct sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials and final product.
Prepare production and other reports.
Resolve production problems and introduce measures to improve productivity and product quality, where relevant.
Engage in research, development, and innovation pertaining to the business and any appropriate programs and/or challenges that would support 7 Leagues Leather’s development and growth.
Oversight of tannery operations, including production and supervision of tanning technicians/assistants.
Ensure effluent treatment process will enable re-use in the production process and/or safe release of water.
Manage production and adapt the schedule to the company's needs.
Leather production and/or oversight of all production activities and operations.
Development and oversight of all quality assurance processes.
Communication & Networking
Act as technical consultant on tanning and tanning chemistry as needed for company partners.
Represent 7 Leagues Leather at industry events/meetings.
Keep CEO informed of issues, successes, challenges and changes in operations, production, and product development.
At least 3 years’ related experience, preferably in a role focused on development and commercialization of environmentally sensitive leather products, tanning formulas (preferably veg tanning) and production processes.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the development of veg tanning chemistry formulas, leather science, leather sustainability, selection and application of natural dyes and surface coatings and surface coating performance, product testing, quality assurance/control, tanning process design, operations management and supply chain and materials management.
Direct experience producing high-quality leather for wholesale and/or retail markets.
Manufacturing support, including equipment use and operating procedures, and health and safety of product and machinery.
Interest in learning and working on projects targeting positive environmental impact and social good, in addition to a successful commercial application, from the ground up.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Experience with procurement of tanning machinery and equipment would be an asset.
Knowledge and/or experience with industrial effluent management would be considered an asset.
