General Manager / Chief Operating Officer - Southwood Golf & Country Club SOUTHWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB is a member-based club established in 1894.

We moved in 2011 to a more expansive setting at the South end of Winnipeg, alongside the meandering LaSalle River. The 18-hole course was designed by renowned Canadian Architect Thomas McBroom. We have hosted many high-profile events including the CentrePort Canada Rail Park Manitoba Open (voted 2022 PGA Tour Canada Tournament of the year), Canada Games, Canadian Amateur and Canadian University Championships.

With over 700 members, the membership is full and has a waiting list. The Clubhouse is open year-round and provides banquet, meeting, and wedding services throughout the year. In the summer we offer lessons, camps and have an extensive practice facility. Our experienced staff and management team provide friendly, professional service to all our members and their guests.

Location Southwood Golf & Country Club - Winnipeg, MB Posted 2023-12-19 Deadline 2024-01-12 Job Summary General Manager and Chief Operating Officer (GM/COO)

We are seeking a GM/COO who is dedicated to the Club’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will administer all Club operations in accordance with the strategic, financial, and operational direction set by the Board and with the support of five full time senior staff members.

Responsibilities The GM/COO will be expected to administer all aspects of the Club including activities and relationships between the Club and its Board of Directors, members, guests, employees, community, government, and industry.

The GM/COO is the leader of the Club’s management team and is responsible for the financial accountability of the club and managing all facets of the Club’s operations and providing advice on new initiatives and policies to the Board.

Qualifications The GM/COO will report to the Board of Directors through the President. Given the leading role this individual will play in achieving the Club’s strategic business objectives, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes.

Business/Finance Skills:

Is analytical with the ability to proactively use data in forecasting and managing revenue and costs and opportunities for revenue generation;

An entrepreneurial style combined with a strong understanding of all aspects of business management including business development, finance, information technology, marketing, human resources, risk management and performance management;

Experience managing golf course operations and capital projects preferred, or having similar experience in multi-sport facility management;

A self-starter with a results-oriented work style combined with excellent verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills demonstrated with all the Club’s stakeholders and a demonstrated ability to build relationships with members and business community.

Member and Guest Experience:

Has the ability to oversee/set and maintain high standards for the golf course and all facilities, services, and communications;

Has experience with managing food and beverage and banquet services.

Leadership Skills:

A trustworthy, dependable, and dynamic leader with the ability to build strong teams by motivating staff and leading by example;

Supports, mentors and inspires department managers and their teams to enhance member experiences;

A confident, diplomatic, competent professional who is a “doer.” A take-charge person who recognizes the importance of accountability and innovation

Provides a respectful workplace;

Proudly represents the Club to external groups.

Interpersonal:

Demonstrates integrity and ethical conduct and fosters a welcoming and inclusive club for members, staff and guests;

Flexible and adaptable to changing needs in schedule demands & time commitments. There is an expectation that this position will be present and visible at Club events.

Education:

A post-secondary education/degree in business, hospitality or professional golf management credential is preferred.

Experience and Accreditation:

Experience as a senior leader in a private golf club environment or other similar top tier golf facility is preferred;

Experience in the hospitality industry with an excellent understanding of food and beverage operations, including pricing, menu development, inventory management and costing;

Proven experience developing and managing budgets and business plans;

Experience reporting to a volunteer board that has adopted a club governance, structure, and processes to lead the Club to thrive;

Evidence of continued professional development.
